What does a Komodo liveaboard cost?

Starting prices for sharing trips, private charters and diving charters, and what changes the price.

Starting prices

The prices below are read from our live rates, so they match the boat pages. They are starting points: the price you pay depends on the boat, the cabin, the number of days and the season.

Sharing tripIDR 3.000.000per person, from the cheapest cabin of the cheapest boat. Larger cabins cost more.
Private charterIDR 36.500.000per boat for 3 days and 2 nights, from the lowest rate. Longer trips cost more, and some boats charge more in high season.
Diving charterOn requestper boat, planned with the operator for your dive group.

These are starting prices. The price of a trip depends on the boat, the cabin, the trip length and the season, and is shown on each boat page before you book. The park fee is added to your invoice.

What changes the price

  • The boat. Boats differ in age, size, cabins and facilities. Compare them on the liveaboards page.
  • The cabin. On a sharing trip you pay per person, and a larger or better cabin costs more than a smaller one.
  • The number of days. Most sharing trips are 3 days and 2 nights. Longer trips, and trips between Lombok and Labuan Bajo, cost more. See how to choose.
  • The season. On some boats, private charter rates are higher in high season. The months are shown on each boat page when you pick your dates. See the best time to go.
  • Diving. A diving charter is priced per boat and depends on the number of dives. Boats with diving rates show them on their page, and the operator quotes the others on request.

Sharing trip or private charter?

On a sharing trip you share the boat with other guests on a scheduled departure and pay per person. On a private charter you rent the whole boat and crew and pay one price per boat, which is often the better value for a group or a family. A diving charter is a private charter planned around dives.

What is included, and what is not

On most boats the price includes your cabin, meals three times a day, drinking water, coffee and tea, snorkelling equipment, a guide, the shore excursions and the transfer between the airport or hotel and the boat. Flights, hotels in Labuan Bajo, travel or dive insurance, alcoholic drinks, personal expenses, and tips for the crew and guide are paid separately. The Komodo National Park entrance fee is added to your invoice. The exact lists are on each boat page. See Komodo National Park fees.

How and when you pay

For a sharing trip you pay a 50% deposit within 3 days (72 hours) and the balance at least 60 days before the trip. If you book less than 60 days before departure, the full amount is paid at once. Read the Payment Policy and the Cancellation Policy.

Komodo liveaboard price: what you pay for

A Komodo liveaboard price covers more than a bed. On a sharing trip on a Komodo liveaboard you pay per person for your place in a cabin, and the price includes the meals on board, drinking water, coffee and tea, the snorkelling equipment, the guide, the shore stops and the transfer to the boat. On a private charter you pay one price for the whole boat and crew, and share it within your group.

The biggest differences between Komodo liveaboards are the boat and the cabin. A newer or larger boat, a cabin with a balcony, and a longer trip all raise the Komodo liveaboard price. The season matters most for private charters, which on some boats have higher rates in the busy months.

Komodo liveaboard prices on this site are in Indonesian rupiah, and the boat pages show an approximate amount in US dollars beside each price. The Komodo National Park entrance fee is added to your invoice per person. Komodo National Park has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991.

As a rough guide, a cabin on a sharing Komodo liveaboard is the lower-cost way to travel for one or two people, while for a larger group a private Komodo liveaboard charter can cost less per person than separate cabins. To compare prices for your dates, start with the Komodo liveaboard of 3 days and 2 nights, the most common length, and read the booking guide for the deposit and payment dates.

How a Komodo liveaboard price is set

Every Komodo liveaboard is sold in one of two ways. On a sharing trip you pay per person for a place in a cabin on a scheduled departure. On a private charter you pay one price for the whole boat and crew, for the dates and the trip length you choose.

The operators set their own rates, and this site shows them as they are, read live from each boat. Prices are in Indonesian rupiah, and the boat pages show an approximate amount in US dollars beside each price, at the day’s exchange rate. Your invoice is in rupiah.

Komodo liveaboard price by type of boat

The gap between the lowest and the highest Komodo liveaboard price is large, and most of it comes from the boat. Simpler boats keep the price low with smaller cabins, and some have shared cabins that are booked per person. Mid-range boats have larger cabins and more room on deck. At the top end you find larger and newer phinisi with master cabins, a few of them with a balcony, and extras such as Starlink Wi-Fi.

The route and the main stops are often similar at every level, because every boat visits the same national park. What changes is comfort, space, food and service, so decide what matters most to you before you compare one Komodo liveaboard with another.

Sharing Komodo liveaboard prices: what to compare

On a sharing Komodo liveaboard the price is per person and depends on the cabin. On each boat page, compare the bed, the size of the cabin, the deck it is on and how many guests it takes. Almost every cabin on the boats on this site has its own bathroom, so the main differences are space, beds and views.

Some cabins are booked by at least two guests. Many cabins also take a third guest on an extra bed, and on every boat with this option the extra bed costs less per person than a regular bed. The booking form shows the total for your cabins and guests before you reserve.

Komodo liveaboard price for a solo traveller

Travelling alone does not have to cost more. On the boats with shared cabins, marked “Shared cabin, booked per person”, you book one place and share the cabin with other guests, which keeps the cost of a Komodo liveaboard down. A cabin marked “Solo OK” can be booked by one guest, who pays for one person.

Cabins marked with a minimum of two guests are meant for couples and friends, so a solo guest should look at the other two options first.

Private Komodo liveaboard charter prices

A private Komodo liveaboard charter is priced per boat, and the charter tab on each boat page shows the rates for each trip length, from 2 days and 1 night up to 8 days and 7 nights on some boats. Many boats set the price for a group, for example up to 10, 14 or 18 guests, and add a price for each extra guest above it, up to the largest group the boat takes. Other boats have a price for each group size, such as 1 to 4, 5 to 8 and 9 to 12 guests.

A few boats charge more in high season, for example from June to August, and show the months with the rates. The charter request form on each boat page works out the price for your dates and your group, with extra guests and the park fee, before you send it.

Example: a Komodo liveaboard price for a group

Say a boat’s charter price covers up to 10 guests and your group has 12. You pay the boat price for your trip length plus the extra guest price twice, and the park fee is then added for each of the 12 guests.

To compare, look at the same boat on a sharing trip: multiply the cabin price per person by 12 and check that enough cabins are free on your date. For a family or a group of friends, a private Komodo liveaboard charter can cost less per person than separate cabins, and the boat follows your plans.

Komodo liveaboard trip lengths: the price per night

A longer Komodo liveaboard costs more, but rarely in proportion. To compare a 3 day and a 4 day trip, divide each price by the number of nights. On most boats a longer charter costs less per night than a short one, while on a few boats every night costs the same, so three nights cost three times the price of one.

Look at what the extra day adds as well: more stops and more time at each one, and on the Lombok routes, islands outside the park. The pages for 3 days and 2 nights, 4 days and 3 nights and 5 days and 4 nights show the lowest prices for each length.

What the Komodo liveaboard price includes

On most boats the price includes your cabin, three meals a day, an afternoon snack and juice, drinking water, coffee and tea, the snorkelling equipment, a guide, the excursions on the itinerary and the transfer between the airport or your hotel in Labuan Bajo and the boat. On the Lombok routes, guests are collected in Senggigi, Kuta or Bangsal.

Many boats add Wi-Fi and water sports such as a canoe or a paddle board. On sharing trips, photo and drone documentation is included on most boats, while on most private charters it costs extra. Each boat page lists exactly what is included for each way to book.

Costs outside the Komodo liveaboard price

Plan a budget for what the Komodo liveaboard price does not cover: flights to Labuan Bajo or Lombok, hotels and meals before and after the trip, travel insurance or dive accident insurance, alcoholic drinks, personal expenses and tips for the crew and the guide. Tips are not included and are your choice.

The Komodo National Park entrance fee is also separate. It is set by the park authority, counted per person per trip and added to your invoice, so you pay one total. On most boats from Labuan Bajo it is IDR 650.000 for foreign guests and IDR 400.000 for Indonesian citizens, and children under 2 do not pay. The park fees page lists the fee for every boat.

Paying a Komodo liveaboard price from abroad

Your invoice is in Indonesian rupiah. It shows the amount due now, the balance with its date and the ways to pay. If you pay from a foreign account, check the exchange rate and the fees your bank charges, so the full amount arrives.

The approximate US dollar amounts on the boat pages help you compare a Komodo liveaboard price with other trips. They follow the day’s exchange rate and are a guide only: the rupiah amount on the invoice is the one you pay.

Komodo liveaboard deposit, balance and cancellation

For a sharing trip you pay a 50% deposit within 72 hours of receiving the invoice and the balance at least 60 days before the trip. If you book less than 60 days ahead, you pay the full amount at once. Your booking is confirmed when the deposit arrives. The deposit is worked out on the invoice total, park fee included.

A cancellation 60 days or more before departure gets a 40% refund of what you paid, and from 59 days before departure there is no refund. You can reschedule a sharing trip up to 65 days before it starts. If the boat cannot sail because of an emergency, bad weather or government rules, you can reschedule or take a 70% refund. Read the Payment Policy and the Cancellation Policy.

How to get the best Komodo liveaboard price

Book early for July, August and the December holidays, when the most popular boats and cabins go first. If your dates are flexible, look at May, June, September and October, which are in the dry season and less busy than the peak.

The price calendar on each boat page shows the lowest price per person on the first day of each trip and the cabins still free, so you can move your trip by a few days and compare. For a group, compare a private charter with the cost of separate cabins, and on a sharing trip consider a cabin with an extra bed for a third guest. Above all, compare what is included: a slightly higher Komodo liveaboard price that includes more can be the better deal.

A Komodo liveaboard price check before you book

Before you reserve a Komodo liveaboard, check five things on the boat page: the price per person or per boat for your exact dates, the cabin and how many guests it takes, what is included, the park fee for that route and the payment dates. The booking form and the charter request form show the total, so the invoice holds no surprises.

If something is unclear, message us on WhatsApp with the boat and the dates, and we will explain the price, the cabins and the route before you book.
