About the boat

Sail Komodo on Navila Liveaboard

Navila Liveaboard is a 28-metre phinisi of ironwood and teak, built in 2019, sailing from Labuan Bajo into Komodo National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, on 3 day 2 night sharing trips. It takes up to twelve guests in six air-conditioned cabins, each with a private bathroom and hot water.

The two master cabins on the main deck have a queen bed and a view of the ocean, and the four private cabins on the lower deck each have a queen bed for two guests. A crew of six looks after the trip.

Guests share two relaxing areas at the front of the boat, an indoor lounge with sofas and an area at the back with a TV, a home theatre and karaoke, with a canoe, a paddle board and snorkelling gear for the water.

The first day walks on Kelor Island, snorkels at Manjarite and ends with the sunset at Kalong Island. The second climbs Padar Island early in the morning, then visits the Pink Beach, the Komodo dragons on Komodo Island, Taka Makassar and Manta Point. The last morning snorkels at Siaba or Sebayur Island before Navila Liveaboard is back in Labuan Bajo at about 12:00.

Most weeks have departures on Friday and Monday. Book a cabin on a scheduled sharing trip and share the boat with other guests, or charter the whole boat for your group. Before you go, check the Komodo National Park fees and read how booking works.

Guide to Navila Liveaboard

Navila Liveaboard at a glance

Navila Liveaboard is a wooden phinisi of 28 metres with a beam of 5.5 metres, built in 2019 of ironwood and teak. With only six cabins and twelve guests, it is one of the more intimate boats on the 3 day 2 night sharing route from Labuan Bajo into Komodo National Park.

A 6D22 engine gives a speed of eight to eleven knots, a 22.5 kVA generator and a silent 8 kVA generator supply the power on board, and the tanks hold 6,000 litres of fresh water. A dinghy for fifteen people takes the guests of Navila Liveaboard to the beaches and the reefs.

  • Length 28 m, beam 5.5 m, built in 2019 of ironwood and teak
  • Up to 12 guests in 6 air-conditioned cabins with private bathrooms
  • Crew of 6
  • Home port: Labuan Bajo, Flores
Why choose Navila Liveaboard

Navila Liveaboard is a small boat with a lot of space to relax. Besides the cabins there are four places to sit: two relaxing areas at the front, an indoor lounge and an area at the back with a TV, a home theatre and karaoke, so twelve guests never have to look for a seat.

Every cabin on Navila Liveaboard has air conditioning, a queen bed and a private bathroom with hot water, and the two master cabins look out over the sea. With twelve guests at most, the group stays small and the trip feels personal.

The cabins on Navila Liveaboard

All six cabins on Navila Liveaboard have air conditioning, a queen bed and a private bathroom with hot water. They are numbered one to six: the two master cabins on the main deck and the four private cabins on the lower deck.

Master Cabins 1 and 2. Two cabins on the main deck with a queen bed and a view of the ocean, each for two guests, the best cabins on board.

Private Cabins 3 to 6. Four cabins on the lower deck, each with a queen bed for two guests, and the lowest price on Navila Liveaboard.

Every cabin is booked by at least two guests. Prices are per person and depend on the cabin; the cabin cards on this page show the current prices, and the booking form shows which cabins are still free on each departure.

Who Navila Liveaboard suits

Couples. Every cabin on Navila Liveaboard is a double cabin with its own bathroom, and the master cabins add a view of the ocean.

Friends and small groups. Six cabins of the same size make it easy to travel together, and a group of twelve can book every cabin on one departure or charter the whole boat.

Families. A family can book two or three cabins next to each other on the same departure.

Solo travellers. Navila Liveaboard has no shared cabin, so every cabin is booked by at least two guests. Travellers on their own can choose a boat with a shared cabin instead.

Day by day on the 3 day 2 night trip

Day 1. Pick-up at the airport or your hotel in Labuan Bajo between 8:00 and 9:30, then Navila Liveaboard sets sail and lunch is served on board. The afternoon brings a walk on Kelor Island and snorkelling at Manjarite, and the day ends with the sunset and the flying foxes at Kalong Island, followed by dinner.

Day 2. An early climb on Padar Island, before breakfast, for the view over its three bays. Then the Pink Beach for snorkelling and a swim, the walk on Komodo Island to see the dragons, lunch on board, Taka Makassar for snorkelling and sunbathing on the sandbank, Manta Point in the afternoon and dinner on board.

Day 3. After breakfast, a last snorkel at Siaba or Sebayur Island. Navila Liveaboard is back in Labuan Bajo at about 12:00, and the drop-off at the airport or your hotel is at about 13:00.

The order of the stops can change with the weather and the tides, and the crew chooses the best moment for each visit.

The highlights of the route

Padar Island. The climb to the viewpoint takes about thirty minutes and ends above three bays with beaches of white, black and pink sand, the best-known view in Komodo National Park.

Komodo Island. The home of the Komodo dragon, the largest lizard on earth. Park rangers lead every walk, and they know where the dragons rest.

Pink Beach. The pink comes from tiny red sea creatures mixed with the white sand, and the reef in front of the beach is good for snorkelling.

Taka Makassar and Manta Point. A sandbank that rises from turquoise water, and a channel where manta rays come to feed and be cleaned.

Kelor, Manjarite and Kalong. Kelor has a small hill with a view over the surrounding islands, Manjarite has calm water and coral close to the surface, and at Kalong thousands of flying foxes leave the mangroves at dusk, the first evening on Navila Liveaboard.

Life on board Navila Liveaboard

Meals are cooked on board: breakfast, lunch and dinner, with an afternoon snack and juices, and mineral water, coffee and tea.

The two relaxing areas at the front, with comfortable sofas and pillows, are the place to watch the islands go by, and the indoor lounge gives shade in the middle of the day. In the evening the area at the back of Navila Liveaboard turns into a small cinema or a karaoke stage, with a TV and a home theatre.

A tour guide joins every sharing trip, and the crew records the highlights with a camera, a drone and a GoPro, so the photos and videos of your days on Navila Liveaboard come home with you.

Snorkelling and water fun

On sharing trips, snorkelling gear with fins, mask, snorkel and life jacket is included for every guest, and the snorkelling stops are part of each day: Manjarite, the Pink Beach, Taka Makassar, Manta Point and Siaba or Sebayur.

Between the stops there are a canoe and a paddle board to borrow, a calm way to explore a bay. The dinghy of Navila Liveaboard, six metres long, takes up to fifteen people, so the whole group goes ashore together.

The boat, the engine and safety

Navila Liveaboard was built of ironwood and teak in the shape of the traditional phinisi of Sulawesi. Its 6D22 engine moves the boat at eight to eleven knots between the islands, and two generators, one of them a silent model, supply the power on board.

The crew navigates with a Garmin GPSMAP 585 and keeps in touch by VHF radio. On board there are life jackets, a life buoy and fire extinguishers, and a crew of six sails Navila Liveaboard, cooks the meals and looks after the guests.

Sharing trip or private charter

On a sharing trip you book one or more cabins on a scheduled departure and share Navila Liveaboard with other guests. Each trip lasts three days and two nights, and the price is per person.

On a private charter the whole of Navila Liveaboard is yours, with its crew, for two to eight days and up to twelve guests. The charter prices depend on the length of the trip and the size of your group, and they are shown in the Private charter section of this page.

About Komodo National Park

Komodo National Park lies between Sumbawa and Flores. It was created in 1980 to protect the Komodo dragon and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991. The strong currents between its islands feed some of the richest reefs in Indonesia, with turtles, reef fish and manta rays.

Walks among the dragons are always led by park rangers, and every visitor pays the park entrance fee, which is added to the invoice of every Navila Liveaboard trip.

When to sail with Navila Liveaboard

The dry season, roughly from April to November, brings calm seas, clear water and sunny days, and it is the busiest time in the park. December and March are quieter, with short tropical showers and green islands.

Navila Liveaboard sails 3 day 2 night trips from Friday to Sunday and from Monday to Wednesday in most weeks, and some months have departures on Friday only. There are no sharing departures in January and February. The departure list on this page shows every date that is still open.

On the last day the boat is back at about 12:00 and the drop-off is at about 13:00, so a flight in the late afternoon is usually possible. Many guests add a night in Labuan Bajo before or after the trip.
