Four days from Lombok to Labuan Bajo

Lady Grace is 34 metres long and carries up to twenty-five guests. On the trip from Lombok, the shuttle collects guests in Kuta and Senggigi in the morning and the boat leaves Kayangan Harbour at 11:00 for Kenawa Island. Early on day two you look for whale sharks in Saleh Bay, then sail on to Satonda Island and its crater lake. Day three is spent in Komodo National Park: Manta Point, Taka Makassar, Pink Beach, Komodo Island and the sunset on Padar Island. On the last morning you visit Kelor and Manjarite and arrive in Labuan Bajo at about 13:00.

The names also help to choose: the Ikan rooms have a private jacuzzi, the Kerang room has its own balcony, the Paus rooms look out over the ocean, and the Penyu rooms on the lower deck are the simple and affordable choice.

Day 1. Guests gather at 7:30 at the meeting points in Kuta (The Breakery) and Senggigi (KFC Senggigi), and the shuttle leaves at 8:00 for Kayangan Harbour. Lady Grace sails at about 11:00 for Kenawa Island and then anchors in Saleh Bay for the night.

Day 4. After breakfast at 7:00, the last stops are Kelor and Manjarite. Lady Grace arrives at Labuan Bajo harbour at about 13:00, and the shuttle takes you to your drop-off point.

Labuan Bajo to Lombok, day by day

Day 1. The pick-up in Labuan Bajo is between 8:00 and 8:30 at your hotel or the airport. Lady Grace starts with Manta Point and Taka Makassar, the Pink Beach and Padar Island, where the day ends with the sunset.

Day 2. At 6:30 the group visits Komodo Island to see the dragons, and then Lady Grace sails west from Komodo National Park towards Sumbawa, overnight.

Day 3. After a wake-up call at 5:00, the group looks for whale sharks in Saleh Bay at 6:00, then visits Moyo Island and the Mata Jitu waterfall before sailing on to Kenawa Island.

Day 4. The sunrise at Kenawa is the last highlight. Lady Grace then sails to Kayangan Harbour, arriving at about 12:30, and the shuttle takes you to Kuta or Senggigi.

The highlights of the route

Saleh Bay. This large bay on the north coast of Sumbawa is known for its whale sharks, which often come to the fishing platforms of the local fishermen early in the morning.

Satonda Island. A small volcanic island off the north coast of Sumbawa, with a salty crater lake surrounded by forest, a short walk from the beach.

Moyo Island. A green island in Saleh Bay, where the Mata Jitu waterfall pours into clear turquoise pools.

Kenawa Island. A small island off the west coast of Sumbawa, with a white beach and a grassy hill for the sunset or the sunrise.

Komodo and Padar. The home of the Komodo dragons and the viewpoint over three bays, the two best-known stops in Komodo National Park.

Swimming with whale sharks

The whale shark is the largest fish in the sea, and in Saleh Bay it often feeds around the bagan, the fishing platforms of the local fishermen. Lady Grace visits the bay at dawn, when the chances are best, and guests can watch from the boat or swim with the sharks with a mask and snorkel.

Sightings are common but never guaranteed, as the sharks are wild animals. Guests keep a few metres away, do not touch the sharks and do not use a flash.

A day on board Lady Grace

Days on Lady Grace start early, because the best moments of the route come at dawn: the whale sharks of Saleh Bay and the sunrise over Kenawa. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are cooked on board by the chef, with coffee, tea and snacks between the stops, and the crew of Lady Grace plans each day around the tides and the light.

The afternoons are for swimming and snorkelling, and the evenings for the sun deck and its lazy chairs. Some nights Lady Grace sails on while the guests sleep, so that the next morning starts at a new island.

Life on board Lady Grace

Meals are served in the dining area, with mineral water, coffee, tea and snacks during the trip. Many guests take their first coffee of the day on deck to watch the sunrise. The sun deck with its lazy chairs is the place for the sunsets, the bathrooms have hot water, and Wi-Fi keeps you in touch where the network allows.

A tender takes the group from Lady Grace to the beaches and reefs, with snorkelling gear and life jackets for every guest and paddle boards for the calm anchorages. A local guide joins every trip, and the crew records the highlights with a drone, a GoPro and a mirrorless camera.

Sharing trip or private charter

On a sharing trip you book a cabin on a scheduled departure and share Lady Grace with other guests. Each trip lasts four days and three nights, in either direction, and the price is per person.

A private charter of the whole of Lady Grace, for a family or a group of friends, is possible on request. Send us your dates, the direction and the number of guests, and we will ask the operator for a quote.

About Komodo National Park

Komodo National Park lies between Sumbawa and Flores. It was created in 1980 to protect the Komodo dragon, the largest lizard on earth, and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991. The currents between its islands feed some of the richest reefs in Indonesia, with turtles, reef fish and manta rays.

Walks among the dragons are always led by park rangers, and every visitor pays the park entrance fee, which is added to the invoice of every Lady Grace trip.

When to sail with Lady Grace

The dry season, roughly from April to November, brings calm seas and clear water, and it is the best time for the crossing between Lombok and Komodo. The departure list on this page shows every sharing date of Lady Grace that is still open. For other dates, ask us about a private charter.

Getting to Lombok and Labuan Bajo

Lombok International Airport (LOP) and Komodo Airport (LBJ) in Labuan Bajo both have direct flights from Bali and Jakarta. From Lombok, the shuttle of Lady Grace leaves from Kuta and Senggigi; in Labuan Bajo the pick-up and drop-off are at your hotel or the airport.
