Explore Komodo National Park's Iconic Destinations

One of the biggest highlights of a Carnaby 02 Komodo boat trip is the opportunity to discover the extraordinary islands surrounding Labuan Bajo. Depending on your selected package, sailing route, and weather conditions, your itinerary may include some of the region's most popular attractions.

Visit Padar Island for its famous panoramic viewpoint, where rugged hills and curved bays create one of Indonesia's most recognizable landscapes. Continue to Pink Beach, known for its distinctive pink-tinted sand and beautiful turquoise waters, where you can relax along the shore and admire the surrounding scenery.

A visit to Komodo Island or Rinca Island offers the chance to observe the legendary Komodo dragon in its natural habitat under the guidance of authorized local guides. Other possible stops include Kelor Island, Manjarite, Taka Makassar, and Manta Point, depending on the itinerary and local conditions.

Every destination offers a different experience, from scenic island hikes to peaceful beach visits and encounters with the region's remarkable wildlife.

Enjoy an Unforgettable Phinisi Sailing Experience

Choosing a phinisi boat in Labuan Bajo allows you to experience Komodo at a more relaxed pace. Instead of returning to a hotel after every excursion, a multi-day sailing trip lets you travel between islands while enjoying the changing scenery of the Flores Sea.

Imagine waking up to a view of green hills rising above clear blue water, spending the day exploring beautiful islands, and watching the sunset paint the horizon with warm colors. These simple moments often become the highlights of a Komodo holiday.

Carnaby 02 offers an opportunity to enjoy the distinctive atmosphere of a traditional Indonesian sailing journey while discovering one of the country's most captivating destinations.

For travelers who want to combine island exploration, ocean scenery, and quality time with their companions, a sailing adventure can be an excellent alternative to a conventional holiday.

Guide to Carnaby 02

Carnaby 02 at a glance

Carnaby 02 is a 32-metre wooden phinisi launched in 2025, one of the newest boats sailing from Labuan Bajo into Komodo National Park. It carries up to 21 guests in ten air-conditioned cabins, each with a private bathroom and hot water, which makes Carnaby 02 one of the larger phinisi on the 3 day 2 night sharing route.

Two rigid inflatable tenders with 40 horsepower engines take guests from Carnaby 02 to the beaches, the reefs and the trekking points, so the group reaches each stop quickly and returns to the boat in comfort.

  • Length 32 m, launched in 2025
  • Up to 21 guests in 10 cabins with private bathrooms
  • Two RIB tenders with 40 hp engines
  • Home port: Labuan Bajo, Flores
Why choose Carnaby 02

Carnaby 02 is new, and it shows in the fresh cabins, the bathrooms with hot water and the charging points on board. With ten cabins it suits both couples and larger groups: friends can book several cabins on the same departure, and families can take the family cabin.

The boat also has the space that a three-day trip needs. Between the stops there is a sun deck, a relaxing area and an entertainment area, and an outdoor dining area with a view of the islands. Carnaby 02 sails twice a week, on Fridays and Mondays, so there is almost always a departure that fits a holiday in Labuan Bajo.

The cabins on Carnaby 02

Every cabin on Carnaby 02 has air conditioning and a private bathroom with hot water. The ten cabins are named after places in South Sulawesi, the home of the phinisi builders: Bira, Tana Beru, Bulukumba, Wajo, Gowa, Maros, Takalar, Bantaeng, Sinjai and Bone.

Master Cabins. The two master cabins are on the upper deck, each with a queen bed for two guests and the best position on the boat.

Suite Cabins. The two suites are on the main deck, each with a queen bed for two guests.

Deluxe Cabin. The deluxe cabin is on the upper deck, with a queen bed for two guests.

Superior Cabins. The four superior cabins are on the lower deck, each with a double bed for two guests, and offer the lowest price on Carnaby 02.

Family Cabin. The family cabin is on the lower deck, with a double bed and a single bed for up to three guests.

Prices on Carnaby 02 are per person and depend on the cabin; most cabins are booked by at least two guests. The cabin cards on this page show the current price of every cabin, and the booking form shows which cabins are still free on each departure.

Day by day on the 3 day 2 night trip

Day 1. Carnaby 02 picks you up at the airport or your hotel in Labuan Bajo between 8:00 and 10:00, and lunch is served as the boat sails west. The first stop is Kelor, a small island with a short, steep trek and a wide view back over the bay. Manjarite follows for the first snorkel of the trip, and the day ends at Kalong Island, where thousands of flying foxes leave the mangroves at sunset.

Day 2. The second day starts before breakfast with the climb up Padar Island, whose viewpoint looks over three bays with sand of different colours. Carnaby 02 then sails to the Pink Beach for snorkelling and sunbathing, and on to Komodo Island, where park rangers lead the walk to see the Komodo dragons. In the afternoon the boat stops at Taka Makassar, a sandbar that appears at low tide, and at Manta Point, where manta rays often feed in the current.

Day 3. The last morning snorkels at Siaba or Sebayur, two islands with shallow reefs; Siaba is known for its green turtles. After lunch Carnaby 02 is back in Labuan Bajo at about 12:00, and the transfer drops you at the airport or your hotel at about 13:00.

The order of the stops can change with the tides, the weather and the rules of the park. Snorkelling and treks are always optional, so guests who prefer to rest can stay on board and enjoy the sun deck.

A day on board Carnaby 02

A day on Carnaby 02 follows the light. The longest day, the second, starts early with the climb up Padar, and breakfast waits on board when the group comes back down. The morning continues with the Pink Beach and the walk with the dragons on Komodo Island, and lunch is served as the boat moves on.

The afternoon belongs to the water, with Taka Makassar and Manta Point, and an afternoon snack with juices in between. Dinner is served on board as Carnaby 02 lies at anchor in a quiet bay, and the evenings are free for the stars, the sun deck or a game in the entertainment area.

Snorkelling and water fun

Carnaby 02 stops at five snorkelling spots on the 3 day 2 night trip: Manjarite on the first day, the Pink Beach, Taka Makassar and Manta Point on the second, and Siaba or Sebayur on the last morning. Fins, masks, snorkels and life jackets are on board, and the guide accompanies the group.

The reefs are shallow and colourful, with reef fish at every stop, turtles that are often seen around Siaba and manta rays that feed at Manta Point when the current is right. Between the snorkels, the canoes and stand-up paddle boards of Carnaby 02 are free to use around the boat.

Life on board Carnaby 02

Three meals a day are served on board, with mineral water, coffee and tea and an afternoon snack with juices. Carnaby 02 has an outdoor dining area, where the islands slide past while you eat.

Between the stops, guests have the sun deck for the sunsets, a relaxing area in the shade and an entertainment area. There is Wi-Fi on board and charging points for phones and cameras.

For the water, Carnaby 02 carries canoes, stand-up paddle boards and snorkelling gear with fins, masks and life jackets. A tour guide joins every trip, and the crew records the highlights with a camera, a drone and a GoPro, so the photos and videos are part of the trip.

Sharing trip or private charter

On a sharing trip you book one or more cabins on a scheduled departure and share Carnaby 02 with other guests. Sharing trips leave on Fridays and Mondays for three days and two nights, and the price is per person.

On a private charter the whole of Carnaby 02 is yours, with its crew, for groups of up to 21 guests. Charters run from two days and one night to six days and five nights, and the price depends on the length of the trip and the size of the group. A longer charter leaves time for more stops and quieter bays.

The charter tab on this page shows the charter rates for each trip length and group size. Send us your dates and we will check them with the operator.

About Komodo National Park

Komodo National Park was created in 1980 to protect the Komodo dragon, the largest lizard on earth, and became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991. The dragons live only on Komodo, Rinca, the west of Flores and a few smaller islands.

Under the water the park is just as rich: strong currents bring food to the reefs, and snorkellers meet turtles, reef fish and, at Manta Point, manta rays. Walks among the dragons are always led by park rangers, and every visitor pays the park entrance fee, which is added to the invoice of every Carnaby 02 trip.

When to sail with Carnaby 02

The dry season, roughly from April to November, brings calm seas, clear water and golden hills, and it is the busiest time in Komodo. December and the first months of the year are wetter, with greener islands and fewer boats in the park.

Carnaby 02 has sharing departures from March to December, twice a week. The sea stays warm all year, and the departure list on this page shows every date that is still open.

Getting to Labuan Bajo

Labuan Bajo, on the west coast of Flores, is the gateway to Komodo National Park. Komodo Airport (LBJ) has direct flights from Bali and Jakarta, and the flight from Bali takes a little over an hour.

Carnaby 02 picks you up between 8:00 and 10:00 on the first day, so an early flight or a night in Labuan Bajo before the trip both work. On the last day the transfer drops you at the airport at about 13:00, in time for an afternoon flight. The transfers between the airport or your hotel and the boat are included in the price.

Booking, payment and park fees

You can book Carnaby 02 online with live availability: choose a departure, pick your cabins and send the booking. A 50% deposit is due within 72 hours and the balance 60 days before the trip; bookings made less than 60 days ahead are paid in full. The payment policy and the cancellation policy give the details.

Every Carnaby 02 sharing trip includes:

  • Transfers between the airport or your hotel and the boat
  • Three meals a day, mineral water, coffee, tea, an afternoon snack and juices
  • Shore excursions with a tour guide
  • Canoes, paddle boards and snorkelling gear
  • Photos and videos by camera, drone and GoPro
  • Wi-Fi

The Komodo National Park entrance fee is paid per person per trip: IDR 650.000 for foreign guests and IDR 400.000 for Indonesian citizens, and it is added to the invoice. Flights, hotels, travel insurance, alcoholic drinks and tips for the crew are not included.
