About the boat

Sail Komodo on Angelica Liveaboard

Angelica Liveaboard is a 38-metre ironwood phinisi built in 2024, sailing from Labuan Bajo into Komodo National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, on 3 day 2 night sharing trips. It carries up to twenty guests in seven air-conditioned cabins, each with a private bathroom and a hot and cold shower.

The cabins are named after Indonesian culture. Candi, the VIP cabin on the main deck, has a 180 cm double bed, a private balcony and a bathtub. Batik, Keris and Wayang, the three master cabins on the main deck, each have a double bed and a private balcony, and all four take a third guest on an extra bed.

On the lower deck, Tenun and Tari are private cabins for two, and Sasando, the family cabin, has a double bed and two single beds for four guests. A crew of eight looks after the trip, and guests share a dining area with a smart TV, a coffee and tea corner, a large lounge on the roof and a jacuzzi on deck.

The first day snorkels at Sebayur Island, Taka Makassar and Manta Point. The second starts with an early climb on Padar Island, then the Pink Beach, the Komodo dragons on Komodo Island and snorkelling at Kalong Island. The last morning snorkels at Manjarite and walks on Kelor Island before Angelica Liveaboard is back in Labuan Bajo at about 12:00.

Most weeks have departures on Friday and Monday. Book a cabin on a scheduled sharing trip and share the boat with other guests, or charter the whole boat for your group. Before you go, check the Komodo National Park fees and read how booking works.

Guide to Angelica Liveaboard

Angelica Liveaboard at a glance

Angelica Liveaboard is a wooden phinisi of 38 metres with a beam of 6.3 metres, built of ironwood and launched in 2024. It is one of the larger boats on the 3 day 2 night sharing route from Labuan Bajo, yet it takes only twenty guests, so there is space for everyone on its decks.

A Mitsubishi engine of 320 horsepower gives a cruising speed of about eight knots, a 30 kVA generator supplies the power on board, and the tanks hold ten tons of fresh water. A dinghy for twenty people takes the guests of Angelica Liveaboard from the boat to the beaches and the reefs.

  • Length 38 m, beam 6.3 m, built in 2024 of ironwood
  • Up to 20 guests in 7 air-conditioned cabins with private bathrooms
  • Crew of 8
  • Home port: Labuan Bajo, Flores
Why choose Angelica Liveaboard

Angelica Liveaboard is new, and it shows in the fresh cabins, the bathrooms with hot and cold water and the clean lines of its decks. Four of its seven cabins have a private balcony, and the VIP cabin adds a bathtub.

The boat is also generous with shared space. There is a dining area with a smart TV, a coffee and tea corner, a large lounge on the roof and a jacuzzi on deck, so the hours between the stops on Angelica Liveaboard are as good as the stops themselves.

Cabins named after Indonesian culture

Every cabin on Angelica Liveaboard carries the name of a treasure of Indonesian culture. Candi is the word for the old temples of Java, such as Borobudur. Batik is the art of dyeing cloth with wax, and the keris is the wavy dagger handed down in families. Wayang is the shadow puppet theatre, and tenun is the hand-woven cloth of the islands, including Flores.

Tari means dance, and the sasando is the stringed instrument of Rote Island in East Nusa Tenggara, a bamboo tube set inside a fan of palm leaves. The names make each cabin of Angelica Liveaboard easy to remember, and they are a small first introduction to the country you are sailing through.

The cabins on Angelica Liveaboard

All seven cabins on Angelica Liveaboard have air conditioning and a private bathroom with a hot and cold shower. Four are on the main deck and three on the lower deck.

Candi, the VIP cabin. The best cabin on board, on the main deck, with a 180 cm double bed, a private balcony and a bathtub. It sleeps two guests, or three with an extra bed.

Batik, Keris and Wayang, the master cabins. Three cabins on the main deck, each with a double bed and a private balcony, for two guests or three with an extra bed.

Sasando, the family cabin. A cabin on the lower deck with a double bed and two single beds, for up to four guests.

Tenun and Tari, the private cabins. Two cabins on the lower deck, each with a double bed for two guests, and the lowest price on Angelica Liveaboard.

Every cabin is booked by at least two guests. Prices are per person and depend on the cabin; the cabin cards on this page show the current prices, and the booking form shows which cabins are still free on each departure.

Who Angelica Liveaboard suits

Couples. Candi, with its balcony and bathtub, is the most romantic cabin on Angelica Liveaboard, and Batik, Keris and Wayang each have a balcony of their own. A sunset on your own balcony is hard to beat.

Families. Sasando sleeps four, and the VIP and master cabins take a third guest on an extra bed. A larger family can book two or three cabins on the same departure.

Groups of friends. With seven cabins and room for twenty guests, a group can fill most of the boat on one departure, or charter all of Angelica Liveaboard for a trip of its own.

Solo travellers. Angelica Liveaboard has no shared cabin, so every cabin is booked by at least two guests. Travellers on their own can choose a boat with a shared cabin instead.

Day by day on the 3 day 2 night trip

Day 1. Pick-up at the airport or your hotel in Labuan Bajo between 8:00 and 9:30, then Angelica Liveaboard sets sail. The first stop is Sebayur Island for snorkelling, followed by lunch on board, Taka Makassar and Manta Point in the afternoon, and dinner at anchor.

Day 2. An early climb on Padar Island, before breakfast, for the view over its three bays. Then the Pink Beach for snorkelling and a swim, lunch on board, the walk on Komodo Island to see the dragons and an afternoon of snorkelling at Kalong Island, where the day ends with dinner.

Day 3. After breakfast, a last snorkel at Manjarite and a short walk on Kelor Island. Angelica Liveaboard is back in Labuan Bajo at about 12:00, and the drop-off at the airport or your hotel is at about 13:00.

The order of the stops can change with the weather and the tides, and the crew chooses the best moment for each visit.

The highlights of the route

Padar Island. The climb to the viewpoint takes about thirty minutes and ends above three bays with beaches of white, black and pink sand, the best-known view in Komodo National Park.

Komodo Island. The home of the Komodo dragon, the largest lizard on earth. Park rangers lead every walk, and they know where the dragons rest.

Pink Beach. The pink comes from tiny red sea creatures mixed with the white sand, and the reef in front of the beach is good for snorkelling.

Taka Makassar and Manta Point. A sandbank that rises from turquoise water, and a channel where manta rays come to feed and be cleaned.

Kalong, Manjarite and Kelor. Kalong is the island of the flying foxes, Manjarite has calm water and coral close to the surface, and Kelor has a small hill with a view over the surrounding islands, the last stop of Angelica Liveaboard.

Life on board Angelica Liveaboard

Meals are cooked on board: breakfast, lunch and dinner, with an afternoon snack and juices, and mineral water, coffee and tea. The dining area has a smart TV, and the coffee and tea corner is open whenever you want a cup.

The large lounge on the roof is the place for the sunsets and for a quiet hour with a book, and the jacuzzi on deck is the favourite spot after a day of snorkelling. At night Angelica Liveaboard lies at anchor in a quiet bay, under a sky full of stars.

A tour guide joins every sharing trip, and the crew records the highlights with a camera, a drone and a GoPro, so the photos and videos of your days on Angelica Liveaboard come home with you.

Snorkelling and water fun

Snorkelling gear with fins, mask, snorkel and life jacket is included for every guest, and the snorkelling stops are part of each day: Sebayur, Taka Makassar, Manta Point, the Pink Beach, Kalong and Manjarite.

Between the stops there are a kayak and a paddle board to borrow, a calm way to explore a bay or the coast of an island. The dinghy of Angelica Liveaboard takes up to twenty people at a time, so the whole group reaches the beaches and the reefs together.

The boat, the engine and safety

Angelica Liveaboard was built of ironwood, one of the hardest timbers in Indonesia, in the shape of the traditional phinisi of Sulawesi. Its Mitsubishi engine of 320 horsepower moves the boat at about eight knots between the islands, and a 30 kVA generator supplies the power on board.

The crew navigates with a Garmin GPSMAP 585 and keeps in touch by VHF radio. On board there are life jackets, life buoys and fire extinguishers, and a crew of eight sails Angelica Liveaboard, cooks the meals and looks after the guests.

Sharing trip or private charter

On a sharing trip you book one or more cabins on a scheduled departure and share Angelica Liveaboard with other guests. Each trip lasts three days and two nights, and the price is per person.

On a private charter the whole of Angelica Liveaboard is yours, with its crew, for two to eight days and up to twenty guests with the extra beds. The charter prices depend on the length of the trip and the size of your group, and they are shown in the Private charter section of this page.

About Komodo National Park

Komodo National Park lies between Sumbawa and Flores. It was created in 1980 to protect the Komodo dragon and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991. The strong currents between its islands feed some of the richest reefs in Indonesia, with turtles, reef fish and manta rays.

Walks among the dragons are always led by park rangers, and every visitor pays the park entrance fee, which is added to the invoice of every Angelica Liveaboard trip.

When to sail with Angelica Liveaboard

The dry season, roughly from April to November, brings calm seas, clear water and sunny days, and it is the busiest time in the park. December and March are quieter, with short tropical showers and green islands.

Angelica Liveaboard sails 3 day 2 night trips from Friday to Sunday and from Monday to Wednesday in most weeks, and some months have departures on Friday only. There are no sharing departures in January and February. The departure list on this page shows every date that is still open.

Getting to Labuan Bajo

Labuan Bajo, on the west coast of Flores, has its own airport, Komodo Airport (LBJ), with direct flights from Bali and Jakarta. The pick-up for Angelica Liveaboard is at the airport or at your hotel in Labuan Bajo between 8:00 and 9:30.

On the last day the boat is back at about 12:00 and the drop-off is at about 13:00, so a flight in the late afternoon is usually possible. Many guests add a night in Labuan Bajo before or after the trip.
